Chevrolet Camaro breaking records in Cyber-space too

Its exactly what the Doc ordered for an ailing GM – a car that would become bigger then its brand – a car that would lift not just GMs fortunes out of the ashes but also the morale of its employees and fans. The Chevrlet Camaro is all this and more. The superbly designed car also boasts of a fantastic affordable price tag in true Chevy sense. So much goodwill has this car generated that merely sharing the same Chevy badge with its brethren is also helping sales. Kind of like a iPhone aura that resulted in all of Apple’s products getting a sales boost.

What is however surprising is that the Chevrolet Camaro is so popular that it is even setting records in cyber space. The car has been a marketing success from the word go – the evidence of which is as follows :

The Chevy Camaro Facebook fan page boasts 1.8 million followers–that’s the same as the population of West Virginia.

According to Chevy, about 60 percent of these fans are between the ages of 18 and 34–just the target market the company is going for.

The amount of Camaro’s Facebook fans not only outnumbers Chevy’s parent company, but also several other automakers. As of today, General Motors has 285,773 fans. Ford Motor has 854,991 fans, and Ford Mustang is close behind Camaro with 1.6 million fans. Honda has 1.2 million fans, Mazda has 355,129, and Toyota USA has 520,209 fans.
